Changing Your Name 

If you are aged 16 or over, you are free to change your name. We will prepare a change of name deed stating what your name is and what you would like to change your name to. There is no legal requirement to have written evidence of your change of name, but you will find that most institutions, such as your bank, the Passport Agency and DVLA will require evidence before they will record any change.

If you have divorced or your civil partnership has been dissolved and you wish to change your name back to your maiden name, most institutions will accept a certified copy of your marriage certificate and decree absolute/final decree as sufficient evidence.

Change of Name Deed for Child Under 16

We can also prepare a change of name deed for parents wishing to change their child’s name as long as they have the required consent/s or a court order. We can assist you in relation to obtaining the required consent/court order. Please telephone or email for further information because  our fees would then be higher, depending on what is required.

Our Charges

We charge £235.00 plus VAT of £47.00 (total £282.00) to prepare a single change of name deed. This includes our usual charge of £10.00 plus vat of £2.00 (total £12.00) to cover the cost of verifying your identity and address and may include an online search to verify. Our service includes a Microsoft Teams meeting with you to establish your identity, preparation of the change of name deed and sending it to you to be signed in front of a suitable witness. If you return the original to us, we will provide  you with up to 10 certified copies for your own use.  

If you would like us to assist you to obtain the consent of a third party who is required to give consent to the change of a child’s name, our charges are on the basis of time spent. We charge £225.00 plus vat of £45.00 (total £270.00) per hour. This may be spent on attending you or others, reading documents or on  preparing documents. Short telephone calls and letters written are charged at 1/10 of the hourly rate. Longer telephone calls are charged on the basis of time spent. Longer letters are charged on the basis of 1/10 of the hourly rate per A4 page.
